Many of you have been watching the progress of Gunner, so I'm so pleased to be able to now unveil him in all his glory
Gunner is a large, size 4, Scots Grey, measuring 49" to his highest point. These were commissioned by King George V in 1914 and were considered top of the range horses.
He came to me overpainted in a dark grey, with no original paint. It wasn't until I stripped him down that I found the remnants of nickel plaiting on his metal work that I could confirm he was indeed a Scots Grey,
I thought it would be fun to reinstate him to his former glory, not really considering the undertaking I was committing myself to! Many hours have been spent researching and designing, before I even got onto the actual work.
I have gone for an aged look, but decided not to go to yellow, so he stays grey rather than looking dun. His tack includes a fully removable saddle and bridle, wool saddle cloth, gun case with toy gun, shoe case with iron shoe as well as a cast pewter Scots Grey regimental badge.
The stand is partially replaced, but retains the original top rail, posts and hoof rails, the metal work is also original, with the exception of the thistle badges, which are pewter castings.
I would love to see this horse go to a collector to treasure, although I'm sure he is strong enough to be ridden, I think he has earned his retirement.
He measures approximately 49" (125cm) to his highest point, with a 27" body length. His stand is 57" (145cm) long by 20" (50cm) wide.
Collection from my home in Gloucester is welcome, but I am happy to arrange a courier.
