Merlin is a J&G Lines, who dates to around 1890-1900.

He's a nice small to medium size at 38" to his highest point, with a body length of just less than 21".

His stand is 38.5" long x 14" wide.

He has been fully refurbished with a soft chestnut/grey, horsehair mane and tail, handmade calf skin tack, with a deerskin saddle seat and a navy velvet saddle cloth. Everything has been gently aged to give a softer look.

He came to me in a sorry state, with thick brown gloss paint, that was covering an overall layer of car body filler. A previous custodian had also chosen to "repair" his wobbly legs, using timber screwed between his legs, and then concealed with yet more car body filler! Such a shame, when all he needed was a bit of wood glue! Still, thankfully I managed to remove all the screws and nails, and his tenon joints, were otherwise intact. He has has newly carved ear tips, muscle blocks and a couple of chunks of body bock for good measure.

The stand has an original top and base bar, and also hoof rails. The feet were replacements and hugely oversized, but they were good solid timber, so I cut them down and replaced them. The posts are new, replicas, made from sycamore.

Needless to say, this one has been a lot of work! It was definitely worth it though, as he looks so happy now bless him!

Please let me know if you have any more questions. I would love to find this one a lovely retirement home where he will be appreciated, although I'm sure he wouldn't object to a gentle rider on occasion.

Collection from Gloucester, but I'm happy to arrange a courier if needed. UK delivery is generally around the £70 mark, but please get in touch with a postcode for a more accurate quote.
