This is Rancher, so called as I found a little toy cactus inside his body when I arrived, I imagined a small person playing cowboys with him and the name came to me straight away.
He is an old, plain carved G&J Lines horse, probably dating to around 1900, however, I bought him overpainted with gloss, hoping to salvage his original paint underneath, but sadly it was in a poor state and couldn't be saved. The woodwork, thankfully, was in remarkably good condition, and only needed a few minor repairs, apart from the stand, which had been damaged by woodworm, and had the posts cut down. So, a fully replacement was needed there.
I have painted him as a lifelike Buckskin Tobiano, although the metallic paint looks quite different depending on the light, it really glows in the artificial light in the evenings.
I was tempted to do away with his saddle block, as it wasn't attached when I got him, but for me that would have been a change to far for this old horse, so I have made him a fitted western saddle, using a 3D printed horn that slots into his original pommel holes. Although all my horses are done primarily as works of art, I know lots of people still like them to be ridden, so this gives a really secure seat as removable saddles can often slip.
He is a size 2, what I would consider to be small- medium, measuring 38" (96 cm) to his highest point with a body length of 20". His stand measures 44" (112 cm) long x 15" (38") wide. The little girl in the photos is just about to turn 7 to give you an idea of size.
You are welcome to collect him from my address in Gloucester, or I would be happy to arrange a courier.
